Pentimento (Aletheia)

Does a sculptor chip away

To uncover the image within?

Or is structure created

As marble is shaped?

The age old question:

Does Science discover Truth or create it?

Is beauty innate, or in the eye of the beholder?

(And would a rose by any other name really smell as sweet?)

  1. Wendy says:

How do blind people perceive beauty?

How does the person that has lost their smell (as happens in dementia and the aged) perceive the rose?

As a creator, how do you listen to the materiality of what you are working with?

I often start to crochet, not knowing what it will be then I ‘repent’, turn and frog it all. Starting again with a better idea of how the material will behave with the needle and stitch. I start with the material and listen.

      Sensing with our inner eye/ear/nose?

I spend a long time just looking at my yarn, touching it, squishing it. Actually knitting is almost an afterthought …

This is a great and provocative question …. and what is the materiality? Thinking (as I often do): music.
